It Has to Be Pretty
We say this so often, it’s become our mantra.
Whatever space we’re designing, our entire focus is on its beauty. Hold on… we know beauty is also on the inside, right? We were all taught that inner beauty is more important than outer beauty—we get it. So, yes, we know the space needs to function and be practical at the same time as being beautiful! We want it all: pretty, functional, comfortable, and of course, livable.
We use the word “pretty” quite loosely, and it’s not just about a feminine aesthetic. There can be moody, masculine spaces that we still consider “pretty spaces.” For us, pretty is about the feeling a space gives you.
They say beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but what defines “pretty,” you ask? Pretty spaces make us want to linger longer. They make us feel at home and peaceful. When we’re surrounded by beauty, we relax into it.
Here are a few things we implement to make a room pretty:
Vintage finds mixed with classic pieces: The charm of something old paired with the timelessness of something new creates a custom, layered look.
Patterns and textures that marry each other: Mixing different fabrics, finishes, and patterns adds depth and interest.
Comfortable, plush furniture (sorry, no recliners!): We believe comfort doesn’t have to sacrifice style.
Paint colors: The right shade can transform a space, setting the mood and tone instantly.
Window coverings in various fabrics and textures: Drapes, shades, and blinds add softness and dimension.
Lighting (and we don’t mean swiss cheese in the ceiling!): Thoughtful lighting choices—lamps, sconces, and statement fixtures—create ambiance and highlight the room’s best features.
In the end, “pretty” is about creating a space that feels good to be in. It’s about balance, comfort, and a little bit of magic. And yes, it always has to be pretty!
